About
For over 15 years Kerry Allan has been creating magical wedding stories for his customers. From the golden age of classical portraiture, to today’s leading photojournalism, Kerry has that special touch to capture the emotion, and love of the day.
Technique
“It’s all about the image” says Kerry, ” Too many people get caught up talking about cameras and equipment, digital and film, and it’s not really about that. It’s about the image. Whether I capture it on digital, film, medium format or etch-a-sketch makes no difference to the emotion of the shot. It would be like judging an artist on the brand of brushes he uses rather than the painting he did.” While Kerry may downplay the importance of equipment, he uses just about every type in the creation of his work. It’s not unusual for him to go on an assignment with up to 6 cameras, even equipment he’s had custom made.
The Best Time Ever
” I’m so excited about what we can do with weddings today.” says Kerry. “The tools that are available to us and the style that people appreciate are far and above the work we were doing even 3 years ago.” Kerry goes on to say, ” … and the delivery methods are beyond belief!. I can paper proof, web proof, and catalog proof all in less time that it used to take to get regular proofs made.”
The Vision becomes Reality
“Twenty years ago I envisioned the kind of innovation we are doing routinely today.” said Kerry, “It’s taken all this time to bring it together”
Packages and Pricing
“I hate the notion of having a lot of packages for people to choose from. I wish I had only one price – one package, and it would simply be the best work I could do, mounted creatively in the finest album system. – Period – Nothing but the best.” says Kerry. “But I guess I can’t do that, so I offer four full packages. that’s it!
We’re measuring with the wrong yardstick!
Kerry goes on to say “I used to get phone calls from people wanting to know how many 8×10’s and 5×7’s etc etc were in my packages and again they missed the point. I may take a page of a wedding album and put a single, lone 5×5 dead center and surround it by a black mat. If the image is powerful, and captures universality, then that’s far more effective than making it a standard 8×10. It’s not about the fact that a 5×5 is cheaper to print. That’s the furthest thing from my mind when I do that. Or alternately I may make a single 10×10, fade a background image and layer half a dozen smaller images on top of it for effect. A very powerful statement, but do I call that a 10×10 or 6 4×5’s? We use the wrong yardstick to compare photographer’s packages. A customer should make their decision based on the artist, and how that person will combine the tools at hand to create a unique wedding album that is totally different from everyone else’s.”
Count on this!
As he said, Kerry offers only four wedding packages, but he feels very strongly that people understand the difference. He says, “These packages are more about being the same rather than being different. The level of art is the same, the dedication to doing the best job ever is the same, and the time talent and equipment are the same. The only difference is the album style and the number of pages included. Remember I don’t count in pictures of a given size, I think about pages in a book. Sometimes that page has a big picture, sometimes a lot of small pictures, and sometimes something special. It could even include non-photographic items that are meaningful to the customer like a copy of their invitation.
